We’ve been down this road before. It’s a good road. It’s a fun-filled road with interesting treasures to be discovered. A road laced with history. But this is a fragile road because it’s made of cardboard. It’s also a never-ending road to nowhere, because I don’t know what kind of metaphor or analogy or introduction [...] While everyone’s busy posting away with their brand new shiny, special 2013 Topps cards, some of us realize that there are other equally viable collecting subjects. What’s wrong with older cards? What’s wrong with talking about a 1986 Donruss card for instance? I mean, it’s not like we’re journalists. Why do we have to write [...] In my most recent post, I sung the praises of the #TwitterTrade. Well…second verse, same as the first. This time, I’m talking about Charles, aka @SWLVGUY. He’s another must-follow on there. Not only is he a great trader, as you’re about to see, but also a fantastic twitter ambassador for the hobby. Oh, and he uses [...] When I say “small,” I don’t mean insignificant. Not by any means. Quite the opposite, actually. And when I say “Giant fan,” I don’t mean of us. No, no, no. I simply mean that a fan of the Baseball team from San Francisco, ARPsmith from ARPSmith’s Sportscard Obsession, sent over some smaller sized items in [...] Why am I so excited about college basketball? A few reasons. 1) My Chicago Bulls aren’t likely to be too fun to watch until Derrick Rose returns from injury. 2) I think the college game is simultaneously infinitely more fun and infinitely more frustrating to watch due to the raw passion and hustle and lack [...] It doesn’t happen too often, but occasionally bloggers will get cards out of the blue. Typically we’re not those guys. There’s usually a reason for us receiving something from somebody. And speaking just for myself, I’m fine with that. I get so wrapped up in the various aspects of my life that I can’t spend [...] How’s that for a deceptive post title?! But seriously, Jamie Moyer winning his first game of the season the other day (thus becoming the oldest pitcher to win a game in the history of baseball) happened literally hours after I had a conversation with a non-collector friend of mine. So young. So… not old. [...] Keep watching this space, because on Sunday I’ll be unveiling something that will keep this blog occupied for some time starting in late October. Once that starts up, I won’t want to stop everything to wedge in a trade post. Luckily, I have no qualms about squeezing one more in before the announcement. Then I’m [...] I have very few card collections given my limited resources and space, but I did decide some time ago to begin collecting on-card Royals autographs.
