I know my blog activity has been sparse for the past few years and all readership has evaporated, but I do still want to keep things going here. Some of you may know that work is the biggest factor. When things get busy, I’m usually putting in 60-100 hours a week for about 6 months. Each year, my boss claims things will get better, but plans haven’t materialized yet for one reason or another. We’ll see what happens in 2017 with that, but in the meantime, I want to try to stay active on here as long as my schedule will allow.
Overall, the fact of the matter is that I have way too many cards that I don’t want and after the Cubs World Series win, I have a lot of new player collection needs. The best way to handle those problems is get active with trading again. Expect some trade bait posts in the near future, because I’m sticking with this thing.
And what better way to commemorate that decision than by showing some stickers from years gone by?
Trapper Keeper ready
Stickers were Fleer’s main selling point (Topps had gum, Donruss had puzzles), but from what very little research I did, it seems that players only appeared on these yearly Star Sticker sets. This one is fashioned after a Tiger Beat poster.
Binder cover ready
In later days, stickers became associated with super-budget sets. That’s fine and all, but you can’t tell me collector’s wouldn’t be into some unique sticker inserts in flagship.
Album ready
Of course, some of my favorites are the actual sticker albums. This is a set I try to complete (and stick into the album) each year. I’m not good at accomplishing that goal and will ask for help in a future trade bait post.
Also Binder cover ready
Moving back to the Collector’s Choice set to show a life-size Frank Thomas. In this AB, he simply picked up the ball and dropped it over the fence as if it were the Bozo Grand Prize Game.
Different album ready
We’ll end with a different sticker album double. One goes into the set, and this one goes into the binder unpeeled.
To anyone that’s stuck with me throughout these crazy years, I greatly appreciate it. I’d like to think that this is the beginning of a new era for the blog and a full-fledged comeback, but I’ll believe it when work let’s me see it. In the meantime, I hope you guys are ready to trade very soon!
