Okay. The one code a day thing came to an end. It pretty much had to. We got a tip from Play at the Plate that the Topps site wasn’t random and was spitting out 1960s and 70s cards like nobody’s business.
I must admit, I was skeptical. I thought that “recently unlocked” list was a cherry-picked selection of “good” stuff to entice people to unlock more codes and really you were going to be the sucker unlocking 80s-00s. After all, the codes are assigned to a specific card from the start, right?
Wrong. I tested it out, figuring I’d stop when I hit a junk-era card, and look what I got with my half of the code cards.
This stuff was unlocked a few days at about 2-3am. And it just got better for a little while. The following morning, I notified Andy and he used up his remaining codes and got almost all 1960s cards. I’ll let him post those scans for those interested. I guess the one a day worked to our advantage, because out of all our 20 codes, we had one card from ’00s, zero from ’90s, two from ’80s, ten from ’70s and SEVEN ’60s.
So, needless to say, we got some more packs and are sitting on three more codes, waiting for the time to be right. I want to see some 1950s in that list next time. It’s been 1973/1975 all day today. Again, big thanks to Play at the Plate for the huge heads-up.
I have to say that on some level, I’m disappointed that the codes aren’t already assigned a card. I think that Topps’ decision to randomize it completely takes a lot of magic out of it. On the other side of that coin, I’m excited about having a much greater chance at pulling a great vintage card when the time is right.
On the trade front – We have one vote from Squeeze Play Cards to keep the Jody and no votes to dump it, so Jody stays! There’s another trade that’s not even worth voting on. Someone’s offering a 1987 Wade Boggs for our 1974 Jim Willoughby. To that I say “non.”
Lastly, I’d like to say a quick hello and thank you to all the bloggers that have either discovered us or posted their first comment on here the past few days. It’s amazing that our little upstart is getting attention and we appreciate the support. You’re putting the Community in Community Gum!
I’m glad the tip worked out for you. You really got some nice stuff.
Jon, do you have a favorite team…I might have something to trade you on the Million Card Giveaway for the Senators card if you’re willing to part with it.

We’re Cubs people over here. As long as you avoid the 1987 dirge, I’m certainly willing to see what you might have. I haven’t tried making a trade, so I have no idea how you’d find our specific copy of the card out of the 5 I see listed, however.
I still have two unused cards. I kept an eye on the site today and saw the recently unlocked cards always seemed to be from 1976-1980. When they start popping up 50s or 60s I’m cashin’ in and taking my chances, lol.

WW, as long as you don’t unlock our 52 Mantle, I think you’re doing the right thing by hoarding your code cards.
I don’t have a cubs card from the 60’s, but I’ve got a Dick Stuart for the Mets from ’66 if you’d be willing to trade that Senators card from ’66.

I’ll trade you something if you tell me how the hell you got an avatar to work on WordPress. I swear to Jebus I’ve tried everything!
I don’t even remember…I used that pic I took at Disney last year! I set that account up back in September I think.
Andy, I just went to WordPress and checked…all I did was upload the image and it worked fine for me. I don’t remember if I cropped it before or after I uploaded it.
