Recent Royals: 2010 Bowman Chrome David Lough

I have very few card collections given my limited resources and space, but I did decide some time ago to begin collecting on-card Royals autographs. It’s been a blast so far trying to track these things down and this is the latest addition to my collection. To view the cards currently in the collection, take a look at the Gallery. After Jon rekindled my interest in the search for Royals autos (previously on hold due to financial distress and medical crises), I was excited to find that I hadn’t missed much in the way of new releases. Topps is the only company producing cards with guys in Royals uniforms and they have only a couple of brands with on-card autos anymore: Bowman Chrome and Topps Chrome. Better yet, those are so overprinted, that I can easily find some Royals to add to my stack without dropping a huge chunk of change (for base, non-colored, non-numbered versions, of course).

The first on that list was a Mr. David Lough.

This would make a great rookie card if this guy turns out to be a star.

I think this is a decent looking card. It’s his first major league card (note: he’s not in the majors yet, nor may he ever be) and so not a rookie. Bowman calls this a “prospect” card which is meaningless and frustrating. Not as frustrating as the fact that I have no idea which Bowman set this card was released in. Could be basic Bowman- there are Bowman Chrome Prospect Autos in that set. Could be Bowman Chrome, with identically-designed Bowman Chrome Prospect autos. Or it could be the recently released Bowman Chrome Draft Picks & Prospects, which is absolutely indiscernible from the first two.

As it happens, this is a Bowman Chrome card. I just wanted an excuse to complain about Bowman shenanigans. As David Lough is not considered by most to be a star prospect, I got this card for One eBay (that’s $.99 after conversion) plus shipping. I don’t know much about Lough other than he’s the first Bowman Chrome auto in my collection, but he won’t be the last. Top catching prospect Wil Myers and top infield prospect Christian Colon have on-card autos in Bowman Chrome sets this year (Colon also has a sticker auto for Bowman Sterling) and both of those go for more money than David here.

I originally wrote this post in December, assuming that the card in question had already arrived or would arrive shortly (I won it on December 22nd). Turns out I just got the card last week. That’s about a 2 month delay with no contact from the seller. Sure, no one’s in a hurry to send out a $1 card, but let’s be reasonable, homeskill. I may have even missed the feedback window. Whoops!
